Q. What is the scale of your B2B integration services?

A. The scale of our GXS / Inovis services is from EDI mappers, to EDI spec writers, to EDI business analysts, to full spectrum integration professionals.  Within and across each of these roles we can ramp numbers, experience levels, and combinations of professionals according to project requirements.

Q. How long have you delivered EDI services to clients where these products are concerned?

A. We have assisted clients with consulting, training, managed services, and placement needs since 1994. A majority of GXS / Inovis services have been delivered direct to client, but also delivered as a services partner while in this program with the two organizations.

Q. Can you come in and troubleshoot problems, review our infrastructure, and make recommendations for improvements?

A. We have done system reviews for many companies over the years. At the direction of the client, some of these were very systematic and others were very problem specific.

Q. What is the history of the two organizations?

A. Existing previously as two separate companies, GXS acquired Inovis in 2010. GXS ( Global Exchange Services ) was formed out of a spin off from GEIS ( General Electric Information Services ). The GXS marquee on-premises software product is Application Integrator added to the solution suite many years ago through the acquisition of RMS and their OmniTrans product. The product has evolved to include the WorkBench and TradeGuide portion of the product.

Inovis, before being acquired by GXS, was formed from several acquisitions, spin-offs, and divestitures involving a number of eCommerce organizations. As Harbinger Corporation the organization began in the EDI industry with such products as TrustedLink Enterprise and TrustedLink Commerce. After acquiring Supply Tech such products as STX Windows, now TrustedLink Windows, and STX Mainframe were added to the portfolio. Harbinger then acquired Premenos Corporation subsequently placing EDI/400, now TrustedLink iSeries, in the portfolio. Harbinger Corporation was then acquired by Peregrine Systems.  With Peregrine came Power.Enterprise! and Power.Commerce!. Inovis was formed when spun off by Peregrine and since acquiried IPNet Solutions which added BizManager and BizConnect to the portfolio.

CASE STUDIES

TrustedLink Enterprise  – Book Distribution

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
TrustedLink Enterprise Upgrade

CLIENT PROFILE
Leading provider of distribution services to independent publishers and a top ten vendor in the industry.

  • Industry: Book Distribution
  • Location: Tennessee
  • Products: Books
  • Technical Environment: Hardware(and OS): Windows, Software(and version): TrustedLink Enterprise v6.1

BUSINESS CASE
The company found it necessary to upgrade to the current version of the TLE software. Inovis sunsets the older versions and they are no longer supported.

The client uses Pubnet as a VAN channel for a large majority of its trading partners. They were utilizing old proprietary software and processes to manipulate the data before and after their EDI translations. Their desire was to bring this into the TLE processing and discontinue the old processes.

SITUATION

  • Company was upgrading to new version of TLE software to stay current on releases.
  • Pubnet – New maps, scripts, and processes were developed within TLE to accommodate sending and receiving data and remove all of the previous pre and post processing done by external software.

SOLUTION/DELIVERABLES

  • Upgraded the TLE software release. Provided all of the testing and regression testing of all maps and processes with the new version.
  • Wrote new maps and enhanced old maps at request of the client. These are in all areas of their business and reflect projects that had been on hold due to lack of personnel or expertise in providing the solution.
  • Pubnet – The TLE outbound maps were rewritten to be able to envelope data for individual partners since all of the data is received as one large interchange from Pubnet. Inbound maps were rewritten to be able to manipulate envelope information to split documents by partner in order to pass to the backend systems within Pubnet.

OUTCOME

  • System and maps were completed and tested without production go-live issues, in the calendar time frame, and billable hours estimated.
  • All additional projects and maps were completed on time. Some of these require special TLE code and processing that the client was unaware of.
  • Pubnet – New mappings worked as designed and allowed the old software and processes to be removed and are no longer used.

Application Integrator  – Banking/Finance

BUSINESS CASE

  • Increased service and responsiveness to customers
  • Increased connectivity options for customers
  • Cost advantages to client in having the payment and remittance systems hosted and administered by an external provider

The client initiative involved assistance with migrating existing global transaction processing, reporting, and connectivity, off the legacy platform to a hosted environment at Global Exchange Services.

SITUATION

  • Client desired a new infrastructure offering a more stable system
  • Also desired was a more scalable platform for processing client transaction files

The project initiative began to address existing legacy system constraints, and contained a requirement to offer customers a wider range of product and connectivity solutions. As part of the effort to come up with a solution that would enhance and strengthen file processing, the project initiative was to include a largely new infrastructure.

SOLUTION/DELIVERABLES

  • Project management of the resources and activities that resulted in rerouted communications within the client infrastructure
  • Project management of the resources and activities that resulted in a change of connectivity by client from client infrastructure to the hosted transaction processing system

The solution is comprised of two components. The first was purely internal; client redirected customer file flows across the internal servers. The change had no impact on how customers send or receive files and required no change from the customer end. The second component required that customers work with client/REMEDI to switch connectivity from existing legacy server platforms to the new hosted platform. Existing file processing was suspended customer by customer as activity was redirected to the new hosted system. The legacy platform is to be decommissioned upon final completion of the conversion.

OUTCOME
The project involved migrating over 250 full service global customers from the legacy platform to the new hosted infrastructure. Full service clients were migrated to the new infrastructure with no impact or issues to the flow of client daily business transactions. As part of the migration and hosted solution, client also offers customers the opportunity to change existing FTP protocols to other protocols such as HTTPS and FTP-SSL.
