Editor’s Note:  This is one in a series of stories about the work performed by Remedi EDI consultants, the value they bring to organizations, and the satisfaction their work brings them.

Career Path: I graduated from a school in Kansas with a degree in computer science. My first job was with a manufacturer doing application programming. We did a little EDI, but their operations weren’t built around it. I moved to the Pacific Northwest and got a job with a consulting company going to different clients doing application development. Then Harley Davidson hired me which is where I got deeper into EDI. It was a great experience, but I missed the variety that comes with consulting, and I never looked back.

Greatest Challenge: It was a manufacturing client that had merged with a larger company. This meant a migration from a homebrewed ERP to the Microsoft Dynamics AX solution. Honestly, it was a hot mess. Some key people left right in the middle of the process, and I went from being the EDI consultant to leading the project. The ones left on the team weren’t feeling too helpful, so I had to build trust. But we got it done, and not long ago they asked me back to lead another project!

Greatest Satisfaction: It’s satisfying to actually connect systems and processes together, and of course see the results of your problem-solving. For example, to see a line go back into production because you’ve traced and resolved the error is gratifying. To me, being an EDI consultant is freedom. I get to do so many different things for so many different companies and so many different types of companies. I’m never bored. How many people can say that?
