Editor’s Note: This is one in a series of stories about the work performed by Remedi EDI consultants, the value they bring to organizations, and the satisfaction their work brings them.

My Challenge: Around 2001 or so I was part of a team of a team of EDI contractors the client brought in through Remedi. They make components for car companies all over the world. They were restructuring and decided to eliminate the in-house EDI staff. Different consulting teams would rotate in and out over the years as the company went through the ups and downs of the automotive industry but they always wanted me back. I had to learn to navigate change and intense personalities—and learn fast!

My Solution: So how I did I go from being another consultant for them to managing all their outsourced EDI teams? With dozens of consultants managing complex platforms like SAP and OpenText, and frequent management changes, leadership recognized accountability was becoming a problem. I had a reputation for knocking out tasks quickly and building relationships. So they worked with Remedi to change my role to oversee the EDI partners. Two decades later, I’m still here.

Results for My Client: These days the client doesn’t have to worry about unchecked scope creep or who is responsible for fixing a mystery document glitch that’s causing production delays. My role is kind of good cop/bad cop. The client knows I’m going to hold the EDI teams to their SLA commitments, which helps them keep their promises to manufacturers. The EDI teams know I will move heaven and earth to get them server access, trading partner requirements, and whatever they need. It’s organized chaos but I love it.
