Career Path: My EDI career started in 2012 or so. I built computers in middle school, but it wasn’t like I woke up one day and announced, ‘I want to become an EDI consultant.’ I was working in a warehouse job, and I was miserable. My buddy took me out for a beer to cheer me up, and we ran into one of his friends who was starting a company focused on EDI support for logistics companies. He said he was looking for people with computer skills, and a few weeks later, I was building maps in Clarify in an AS/400 environment.

Greatest Challenge: Hmm, greatest challenge? You mean after escaping a dead-end job I hated? So, I would have to say my biggest challenge so far was the time I migrated 150 customers from Extol Business Intelligence to Cleo Clarify over about a two-year time span. It was challenging for a couple of reasons. The first issue was the documentation, which wasn’t great. And the second was that it was my first time doing a migration. These days, I help customers migrate to Cleo Integration Cloud and support hybrid setups.

Greatest Satisfaction:  Seeing a customer go live is the best. When those first transactions flow, I get a feeling of accomplishment. It tells me that what I do matters to the companies I support. I say that because in the logistics business, time is money. So if I help my client onboard a new customer in days, not weeks, the sooner that customer is generating revenue. It might be behind the scenes, but what I do matters. And it’s cool when you get to work on a big name and realize, oh, wow, I help keep their supply chain flowing.
