BizTalk Server Overview

Microsoft BizTalk Server is an enterprise integration platform designed to support a wide range of adapters and standards, including XML, web services, and common EDI formats.

In production for more than two decades, BizTalk Server continues to be a reliable solution for on-premises enterprise integration, particularly where compliance and legacy system support are essential. It is also flexible enough for teams transitioning to modern integration workflows.

For example, some organizations run BizTalk on virtual machines in Azure. While Microsoft BizTalk Server remains widely deployed, users should be aware that the platform is entering its final phase of vendor support.

BizTalk Server End of Lifecycle

BizTalk Server 2020 will be the final version of BizTalk, and while it remains supported for several years, its lifecycle milestones are now clearly defined. Mainstream support ends in April 2028, followed by extended support through April 2030.

Be aware that users running versions of BizTalk earlier than 2020 may be at higher risk of security breaches such as ransomware attacks and sensitive data theft. Such risks are amplified by bad actors’ increasing use of more sophisticated AI tools and legacy integration environments where unsupported software may offer softer targets.
