Keys to Morale and Retention

As a small business active for more than 20 years, Remedi understands the value of employee morale and retention. While our business and workforce has grown, we have seen the need to find dependable, long-term employees.  In our experience, by treating employees like extended family, we have been able to sustain high morale and retain valuable employees. The investments made have since paid major dividends. Some of Remedi’s longest tenured consultants have been with the company for more than 17 years.

With an extensive knowledge of our employee’s skill set, Remedi can properly allocate work to those best suited to meet the needs of our clientele. Furthermore, while working with our employees for so long, we have developed a personal relationship that translates directly to how our employees work with customers. With these benefits in mind, let’s take a look at three tips to improve employee morale and retention.

  1. Hire employees who fit your company culture. If employees have a career that coincides with other aspects of their life, they will be more dedicated and more likely to take satisfaction in their work.
  2. Communicate the employee’s role and how they will help the business. Giving employees the idea that the business needs their help can be a great way to motivate them.  When a project is finished, employees will take pride in knowing they did their part.
  3. Give feedback often and be receptive to feedback. If employees aren’t meeting expectations, tell them how to improve early and give them the opportunity to change. Also understand that feedback received goes a long way toward understanding what makes an employee happy.
In the business world, you will inevitably deal with unhappy employees.  Those who leave will take with them their abilities and knowledge that made significant contributions to your business. A study from the Center for American Progress shows the cost of replacing an employee to be about 20% of that position’s yearly salary. Using the above tips can help your business avoid this major setback and continue to create profitable relationships with the most valuable assets to your business.
