The Then and Now of E-Commerce

Two Quick Thoughts

I’ll make my two thoughts especially quick because I know it is a shorter week for many.   In the spirit of the season here are two things to consider before you plunge headlong into this Thanksgiving’s tryptophan induced coma.

Fun Facts Even Your Kids will Love

While enjoying this infographic courtesy of History.com entitled Thanksgiving by the Numbers  take a minute and look for yourself at the bottom right corner of the infographic.  You may find yourself there directly or indirectly.    Even if that bottom right factoid doesn’t apply to you personally, compare it to the earliest facts at the top of the graphic and one thing becomes clear.

Change Happens Fast

Consider how much has changed over the last few years alone.   Many retailers will open as early as Thursday to offer the merchandise ordered from their trading partners earlier this year.  And though holiday retail sales are estimated to rise 3.6 percent this year, online holiday sales may well increase to as much as $117 billion during the months of November and December alone, according to the National Retail Federation.   UPS announced in September their plans to hire 95,000 seasonal workers again this year, attributing their ability to hold that hiring number level with past years by improving its network to handle rising e-commerce volumes.

Our founders could have never imagined how this new world would look in 2016 when they landed on these shores in 1620.   But then again, could we have imagined all the impact business and data integration would make as recently as 1996 or 2006?   Change happens fast.

With all the change between “then” and “now”, how will a data integration strategy fuel your company’s competitive growth in coming years?     This is a great problem to have, and we feel fortunate to be able to work on it together with so many of you.

For those opportunities, and so many other reasons that we have to be thankful, our family here at REMEDI wishes you and your family a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
