Two Quick Thoughts - Integration Ubiquity

If you are a gadget geek like me, this article will be right up your alley.

This weekend I picked up a gadget called the “Nest”.   Little did I know at the time that it would find its way into my article this week.

Nest is a learning thermostat for your home HVAC that identifies your heating and cooling patterns and habits and “learns” to program itself.   I thought this would be a neat gadget to have since it would save me money on my heating and cooling bills.  But then I discovered all of the OTHER gadgets that Nest interfaces with.

Here are three quick examples: Internet_of_things

Smart Phone
s– I now have the ability to monitor and change the temperature from anywhere using an app on my phone.  Apps on my phone can let Nest know I’ve left home and lower my HVAC energy usage until I return.

Jawbone UP
– Wear one of those UP activity trackers on your wrist?  It can tell Nest when you’ve gone to sleep and when you are waking up and adjust the house climate to your preferences.

Ooma
–Nest will talk to an Ooma VoIP phone system and automatically forward your calls to your cell when Nest notices you are away from home.

Nest integrates with a lot of other home systems like washing machines, lighting systems, automobiles, and more.  I’ll put a link at the bottom of this article to a short video as a bonus for my fellow gadget geeks.  But first...

So What!

So, what exactly does this have to do with EDI?   More than you think.  Consider the ways in which integration is growing by leaps and bounds within the consumer marketplace.  Now ask yourself these 2 questions about how well your EDI system is keeping pace with today’s changing business landscape.

How integrated to other business systems and processes is my current EDI platform?   What areas of opportunity for integration am I overlooking that my competition isn’t?

Think about the benefits of having your transactional data more fully integrated with other systems.     Can the advantages of faster onboarding, transaction analytics, higher efficiency, or improved cost savings provide your organization with an edge over your competition?

Discussions centered on how your current EDI system can go from being as isolated as yesterday’s old-school thermostat to a game-changing integrated business engine can be time well spent.

Make your data integration wish list, and give Remedi a call.
