MFT Filling the Gap in Your Software Portfolio

Recently, we have been talking about Integration Suites in a variety of ways from Maximizing Your Investment, to Use Cases, and what to consider when you’re Shopping for Integration software.  But IBM has recently filled a gap in their portfolio with the purchase of Aspera, an MFT software provider.  I announced the acquisition in a previous blog, IBM Acquisition Expands MFT Portfolio, but what does that mean for you?

Managed File Transfer (MFT) software is often an area over looked by businesses, but one that can be very expensive.  Research shows the average data breech cost businesses $5.5 Million in 2011.  So why should you consider MFT software?

Here are a few Use Cases to think about:

  • Extreme File Transfers – moving the largest files and data sets quickly and securely over global distances.
  • Enterprise File Sharing and Sync – Sharing, exchange, and synchronization of large files using desktop, web, and mobile devices and applications.
  • Cloud Computing – Line-speed transfers to, from, and across cloud infrastructure with direct integration to cloud-based object storage.
  • Workflow Automation – Orchestration and automation of file transfer and processing workflows from very simple to the most complex.
  • Disaster Recover and Business Continuity – Replicate massive file systems across distance from primary to backup sites meeting stringent recovery point and recovery time objectives.

While there are quite a few different MFT software providers, Remedi has most recently had a chance to learn more about Aspera and IBM’s newest addition to the MFT portfolio.  Aspera Software is the creator of next-generation transport technologies that move the world’s digital assets at maximum speed, regardless of file size, transfer distance and network conditions.  As an IBM Premier Business Partner, I’ve been able to better understand Aspera’s file transfer capabilities and associated use cases that many of our customer struggle with on a daily basis.

Aspera Software is not a single solution, but multiple products and platforms that support a wide range of clients from small business to large enterprise.  If you are thinking of exploring your MFT options, Remedi is an IBM Premier Business Partner for B2B Integration and Managed File solutions, including Aspera.  If you’re interested in learning more about Aspera, feel free to contact me directly.
