Supporting Systems And Staying Current

As integration continues to evolve, it is imperative to keep the department working at peak efficiency.

If you are trying to save money by prolonging the life of an outdated system, you’re not only investing in false economies, but you’re missing out on technological advances.  Technology advancement can pay a sizable ROI derived from savings on downtime, improved system efficiencies, remote system capabilities, energy savings, increased safety or a combination of those benefits.

Upgrades can be costly and can result in downtime, but can also offer features that help your organization be more effective and efficient. So what happens when your software version(s) is no longer supported by the manufacturer? Companies continuing to operate unsupported software may save money in the short-term but open themselves to a risky business scenario, particularly when running mission critical ERP, EDI, B2Bi, and MFT applications that are past End of Fix, End of Support, and End of Life time periods.

What are risks and costs of using unsupported software?

  • Operational failure
  • Loss of functionality or flexibility of product
  • Legal and regulatory issues
  • Security vulnerabilities
  • Difficulty integrating with other systems
  • Increased support issues
  • Breaches of contract
  • Service Level Agreement issues.

Efficiency in operations and maintenance leave more time and money for integration initiatives with line of business applications.  More comprehensive integration tools and integrated systems will allow IT to be more efficient.

Is your software nearing or past an end of support date? We recently contacted our customers who utilize IBM Sterling Gentran to inform them of the end of support notice for several Gentran products. The End of Support / Fix period for certain versions of GENTRAN is coming at the end of April, 2015.  IBM provides support and fixes for current and previous versions of their software and support will be ending for Sterling Gentran:Server (Windows V5.1), (iSeries V3.4), (UNIX V6.0.2), and (zSeries V6.4).  Click the links below for more information on your integration and/or EDI tool.
