EDI and ERP systems have been at the center of enterprise management for decades. However, until recently, these two technologies existed as stand-alone solutions, with ERP handling records and internal transactions and EDI executing data exchanges with external partners.

As a recruiter, I’ve had many people ask me “How do I become an EDI developer?” There’s no simple answer. Historically, an EDI coordinator or EDI business analyst who wanted to become an EDI developer would be trained on their company’s EDI tool and their career would evolve internally.

EDI systems and ERP solutions are essential for any business that relies on a properly functioning supply chain. EDI handles communication with trading partners on the front end, while the ERP system manages records on the back end.

Today's exceedingly dynamic and disrupted business environment has reinforced the need for enterprises to have complete visibility and control of their supply chains. In response, many have turned to technology for ways in which they can better connect with their partners, quickly respond to disruptions, and accurately meet evolving customer expectations.
