Recently, we have been talking about Integration Suites in a variety of ways from Maximizing Your Investment, to Use Cases, and what to consider when you’re Shopping for Integration software.  But IBM has recently filled a gap in their portfolio with the purchase of Aspera, an MFT software provider.  I announced the acquisition in a previous blog, IBM Acquisition Expands MFT Portfolio, but what does that mean for you? 

IBM has completed yet another acquisition….seems like we hear that a lot, but this latest IBM purchase has caught my attention and will undoubtedly catch the interest of some of Remedi’s customers.

Since 1972 companies have been utilizing FTP to move data between internal and external servers.  While other communication methods, such as HTTP, SFTP, and AS2 have been adopted by many businesses, a large number of businesses still use FTP to move files.  A recent survey by HubSpan indicates 70 percent of those surveyed still use unsecured FTP as their main transport protocol.   In addition, 49 percent of those say their top concern regarding file transfer challenges is security.  With this in mind, why are businesses still relying on a solution that can be unreliable, unsecured, and inefficient?

Here is a link to a press release from The Drummond Group and also the complete list of the 21 AS2 products that have recently completed the AS2-3Q10 Drummond Certified Interoperability testing.  AS2 is a protocol for the transport of data.

A sample of the companies includes Sterling Commerce, IBM, GXS, Seeburger, Cleo, EXTOL, TIBCO, and others.  This is interesting news in the EDI world as AS2 continues to become more and more popular as a messaging standard for B2B eCommerce.
