I recently attended an EDI enablement session that included a Remediclient as a speaker addressing how industry specific requirements impact his company's EDI and integration environments.  The client is in the distribution industry, of which EDI is the backbone to any company in that industry that wants to meet the demands of its customers and various trading partners.  These demands include doing everything that they do faster, more effectively, and cheaper than their competitor to ensure excellent relationships with their customers and trading partners while maintaining as much profitability in a razor-thin margin industry.

A final blog in a series of Lean articles includes specific integration improvement concepts that can be applied to the 8 traditional wastes.

Several blogs ago I wrote about Lean and eliminating waste in
Good...the Enemy of Best! How Can Lean Be Applied To Data Integration?  This article outlined the lean concept, 8 forms of waste, and how the concept might apply to business and data integration for our organizations. 

In eliminating waste we improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our organizations, but how do we identify waste or process improvement opportunities? A recent trip to Europe with my wife and kids provided some interesting insights on ways to identify Lean Integration opportunities.

Is Your EDI Process "Self-Driving"?

A car with no steering wheel or controls?  Google’s latest invention is getting a lot of hype, a fully self-driving car!  In a recent article on CNN, it touts this new invention as being a cross between a VW Bug and a golf cart.  Is the world really ready to embrace a technology that gives up all control and relies on a computer to get you home safely?  Integration is taking over our lives from business systems, personal gadgets, and now cars.

We talk about integration a lot but is it time to shift from just “integration” to “automation and integration”?  Not only are we constantly searching for ways to integrate our systems but we’re looking to remove human control from the process.
